The Threshold explores the moment we decide to turn inward and begin the journey of self-discovery. It captures the fragile space between resistance and acceptance, where the possibility of transformation first reveals itself.
Four figures occupy the composition, each representing a different stage of this inner process. One resists the journey entirely, unwilling to face the emotions that have long remained hidden. Another takes the first courageous step towards self-exploration, while the remaining figures become silent witnesses—aware that something profound is beginning, yet uncertain of what they will discover.
Shrouded in darkness, the figures move instinctively towards the light. The painting suggests that we do not begin the journey because we already possess the answers, but because something within us recognises that we can no longer remain where we are. The darkness becomes not a place of fear, but the unknown territory through which every meaningful transformation must pass.
Ultimately, The Threshold is a meditation on courage, reminding us that every journey of healing begins with a single decision: the willingness to face ourselves honestly, even when we do not yet know what awaits us.
