The Escape reflects a quiet rebellion against the pace and expectations of modern life. Inspired by contemporary culture and the constant pressure to appear successful, connected and fulfilled, the painting explores what happens when we step away from performance and return to ourselves.
The two figures have retreated to the Scottish Highlands, leaving behind the noise of social media, consumerism and external validation. Although they still carry the symbols of modern life, they are no longer performing for an audience. Surrounded by vast landscapes and open skies, they rediscover the freedom to simply exist - to reconnect with nature, with one another and with the present moment.
Rather than portraying two specific individuals, The Escape reflects a universal longing for simplicity and authenticity. It reminds us that fulfilment is often found not in acquiring more, but in creating space for what truly matters.
