Vestige I

£2,850.00

Vestige I marks the beginning of a series exploring what remains after transformation. Through a restrained palette of black, ivory, gold and muted grey, the painting reveals traces of earlier forms that continue to exist beneath the surface, suggesting that every ending leaves behind fragments of its own history.

The title, derived from the word vestige, refers to the marks, memories and impressions that survive the passage of time. Rather than revealing everything at once, the composition encourages the viewer to slow down, discovering subtle textures and hidden layers that hint at the painting that came before. It is an exploration of memory, resilience and the quiet beauty found in what endures.

About the Abstract Collection

Vestige I forms part of Hrvoje's Abstract Collection, a body of work created through transformation rather than beginning as abstraction. Most paintings originate as figurative compositions before being reimagined through expressive layers of colour, texture and movement.

Inspired by the scraping techniques pioneered by Gerhard Richter, Hrvoje balances deliberate decisions with spontaneous mark-making. Hidden beneath each finished surface are earlier paintings whose energy remains embedded within the work, creating abstract pieces that celebrate reinvention, resilience and the unexpected beauty that can emerge from change.
